Event Description: 
Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) are bioderived and biodegradable polyesters. They have similar mechanical properties to those of commercial polyolefins, such as polypropylene, and hence are attractive alternatives for applications where biodegradability is a requirement. Metabolic flux analysis (MFA) and flux balance analysis (FBA) were performed at different stages of culture enrichment in order to investigate the effect of acetic and propionic acid on monomer development in mixed culture PHA accumulation. A feature of the work is an assessment of the capacity of existing models to describe monomer production during simultaneous growth and PHA accumulation under a range of carbon feeding strategies.
